Eleven year old Marple Swimming Club athlete Anya Dunne raised over £300 for Alzheimer’s Research UK by participating in the High Peak Triathlon Club’s Aquathlon race today in Buxton.

It was Anya’s first ever aquathlon but she thoroughly enjoyed the experience and is keen to return next year, “It was really good fun, and great to be able to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research too” she said after collecting her medal.

She was inspired to get sponsorship for this challenge after learning that some of her own neighbours suffer from dementia. Anya was one of seventeen Marple Swimming Club athletes competing in today’s race which was held in the picturesque location of Buxton Pavilion Gardens and Swimming Pool.  Marple Swimming Club coaching coordinator and teacher Lucy Budd said, “This was a brilliant opportunity for our swimmers to experience a multi-sport event, in very friendly surroundings, and we are pleased that our team did so well.”  Anya’s Virgin Money Giving fundraising page is still open for donations at: .
