Marple is about to become one of the first towns in the country to have its own loyalty card scheme for shoppers to use at independent retailers, bars and restaurants.

Loyalty cards have already been a huge success for supermarkets and chains across the country over the last 20 years, and although smaller businesses in Marple are already running their own cards, this new scheme is unique in that it will offer one card for use at many independent outlets across the town.

The Shop Local Club Card, designed by Marple-based software company (Marlin Web Design), will be accepted at independent shops, eating and drinking places around the town, enhancing brand loyalty by offering rewards, special offers and discounts to card holders.

The card, will be available to pick up free from participating stores or customers just need to download the app to start shopping. Points will automatically be added, with different offers from different retailers available.

Shop Local Club Card will also include bars and restaurants around the town which will make the scheme even more attractive to people wanting to be financially savvy while supporting their local businesses.

Although it has been developed to work through an app, anyone not comfortable with modern technology, will still be able to take part by picking up a membership card, still Shop Local, which will allow points to be added by the retailers themselves.

Ian Smith, chairman of Marple First, which promotes Marple as a great place to live, work and socialise, said: “There is no doubt that loyalty cards are hugely successful. They have been around for many years at supermarkets and large chains. Smaller businesses also use them to build loyalty but in the past they have been created on an ad hoc basis by individual businesses.

“The difference with this Shop Local scheme is that all the independents in Marple can take part with just one card. This is great news for shoppers as they will be able to collect and use their points at different stores and restaurants but it is also a fantastic way of promoting local businesses as well. Basically, it is good news all round.

“Marple is already a great town but this could see us really lead the way in helping grow our town centre to make it even better,” he added.

Shop Local Club Card is due to launch this summer so download the Shop Local Club Card app and look out for the signs in the shops, pubs and restaurants taking part and call in for your card.
