Following Stockport Council’s enforcement order for closure of the Lakes Road attraction, an eleventh hour appeal has been lodged asking for the decision to be reconsidered.

The appeal, submitted on July 11, effectively lifts the immediate threat to the Garden House and begins a period of consultation during which all sides can make their case to the planning department.

Owner Kevin Swindells has been overwhelmed with support from across the community and a public meeting held at the Marple Tavern was packed with supporters.

Mystery surrounds both the timing of, and reasons for the decision, which appeared to have been hastily made following complaints over a one-off Bank Holiday parking problem.

The council planners will now consider the appeal with a view to securing a satisfactory outcome for all concerned.

In the meantime, and with huge public support, the Garden House remains open.
