Blythe House launched their Hospice at Home Service in April 2016 using the money gifted to them in a legacy and it’s proving to be the service the High Peak needed.  At one year and four months into a two year pilot study, the team have already provided over ten and a half thousand hours of care to the people and families who need it the most.

The Blythe House Hospice at Home service has made a phenomenal difference for people in the High Peak who are dying and wish to stay in their own homes. The support this service offers enables this to be a realistic possibility for individuals and their relatives and ensures they feel safe and cared for in their own environment.

For patients in the High Peak, travelling infrastructure and distance to hospitals and Hospice Inpatient units is often considerable, taking patients away from their friends and relatives.  This often adds stress and worry to an already difficult time. This service has transformed end of life care in the High Peak and allowed patients the freedom to choose how they wish to spend the last days of their lives.

After using the Hospice at Home Service when her mother was ill, Donna Bailey from New Mills explained that the service to her was “invaluable”.

“Having spent many years throughout her life in hospitals it was my mums wish to be able to die at home with her family.  Your service enabled her to do this, surrounded by those who loved her.”

The Hospice at Home service is available to any patient registered with a GP in High Peak, which includes Glossop and also to patients already accessing Blythe House Hospice services.  If you require more information about the service, please don’t hesitate to contact Ruth Brown and the Hospice at Home Team on: 01298 813007 or 01298 811779.
