Marple Marple Bridge Marple Poppy Appeal Kevin Murray First World War

Over 40 large poppies have been fastened in place across Marple and Marple Bridge - to get the 2017 Marple Poppy Appeal firmly under way.

Each large poppy is to honour a local Marple man who fell in the First World War and is sure to keep both his name and his memory alive.

Kevin Murray, who has taken on the role of Poppy Appeal organiser this year, says the 46 large poppies are an emotional reminder of the sacrifice of local men. Local businesses are being asked to sponsor these poppies.

He said: “We have also created a special poppy which we have framed. It is made up of the names of the 46 Marple men from the First World War. This will be on show at Asda November 4 to 11 and in Market Street on November 4 and 11.

“Everything is going to plan with the appeal and if anyone else would like to volunteer to help or offer sponsorship, please get in touch on 07954 388782 or email:''

Marple Poppy Appeal

Much support for the 2017 Poppy Appeal is already coming from local schools and businesses.

Volunteers will be manning a poppy stand at the Marple Asda during the week of November 4 to 11 and there will also be a gazebo on Market Street on two Saturdays, November 4 and 11 to promote the appeal.

Local schools have been visited with a `kids pack' which features poppy designs especially for the younger generation. Poppy themed artwork from local children will be on display in local shop windows.
