The centuries old St Thomas Becket Church in the heart of Chapel is opening its doors for a week-long seasonal spectacle.

Last year's Christmas Tree Festival, a first for the historic Market Place landmark, was hailed as a great success by visitors and organisers alike and so a repeat this festive season was almost a foregone conclusion.

From Sunday December 3 to Sunday 10, you can look forward to seeing another superb display. "Twenty five trees were decorated last year and we have the capacity to include more," says organiser Fran Cohen. "Please tell your friends, we would really love to have you join us."

Fran is keen to hear from anyone, businesses, organisations or individuals who would like to have a tree included in the display. It should be 3ft to 4ft tall and you will need to provide your own lights and decorate it on a theme of your choice.

Tea, coffee and home-made cakes will be available for those who visit and wish to linger. An appeal has gone out for volunteers to join the rota to help with the refreshments or simply to be in church to welcome visitors throughout the week. The planned hours of opening are 10am-4pm and 5pm-7pm.

On the final day of the festival, everyone is welcome for what promises to be a 'splendid' Christingle service (Sunday December 10, 10.30am).
