It's been a great year for Hawk Green Cricket Club with two championship wins.

The 2017 season has seen the first team become the First Division championship winners and the second team became Third Division champions, both in the Intersport Monkhouse Derbyshire and Cheshire League.

The first team were also winners of The Offside Trust T20 2017 Final, were runners up in the Bissenden Cup Final and also made it through to the last eight in the National Village Cup knockouts, meaning they were only two matches away from playing at Lord's, the home of cricket.

The second team also won the Hawke Trophy and the Under 17 Juniors were shared winners of the Compstall Cup, along with Mottram Cricket Club.

Sue Mather, a member of the club's management committee, said: "We've had a really good couple of years and have previously won the league.  New players are always welcome and we have a very good junior section. We train juniors from around five years of age and many of them move up through the ranks into the senior teams.''

Hawk Green is a very long established local cricket club and initially played its cricket on the village green until getting premises of its own.

It holds fundraising events throughout the year and is looking forward to the annual Hawk Green Band concert at the cricket club on Friday December 15 which is always a hugely popular event. All proceeds are split between the band and the cricket club and tickets are almost sold out already.
