Enlightenment Carver Theatre Shelagh Stephenson David Carlile

This is not your usual amdram production - Enlightenment raises some uncomfortable issues and could be challenging for parents dreading the thought of their youngster taking off around the world.

Packed with emotional turmoil and a bleakly comic thread running throughout,  Shelagh Stephenson’s writing has been described as a cross between Francis Durbridge and Tom Stoppard.

Shelagh Stephenson studied drama at Manchester University and as an actress herself (she has appeared in Coronation Street)  has a very accessible approach to tragedy though her first play, Memory of Water, received an Olivier Award for the best new comedy in 2000.

Enlightenment is David Carlile’s debut Directing at the Carver and having been awarded  Best Director by the Greater Manchester Drama Federation for Humble Boy in 2010,   is a steady hand to produce a tense psychological drama  with a seasoned Carver cast.

The set is too, is simply technically brilliant

Enlightenment opens on Friday March 2nd at the Carver Theatre, Marple, SK6 7AX.  Tickets:
