The Foodie Friends Café in New Mills is now well into its second year and has been a fantastic success.  Held in St George’s Church Hall on the first Friday of the month and open to everyone, over 150 people visit each time eating food that would otherwise be wasted.  The café uses surplus food that is still in date donated by the charity FareShare and two local supermarkets.  Energetic cooks  create a varied and delicious three-course menu with plenty of options to suit everyone’s tastes. Customers get to enjoy all this plus drinks and treats for a suggested donation of £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.

“The atmosphere each month is wonderful as strangers become friends.” Says Katy-Lou Evans, who has been involved in the organization and set up from the start and is very happy to see the café take off as a family and community event.

“We have a great team of about 20 volunteers who work very hard to make it happen.  Our wonderful cooks seem to work miracles to create delicious meals with the surplus food month after month.  We are proud that because the food is fresh when it arrives, and is freshly cooked, none of what is left at the end of the night is ever wasted. We have regulars who look forward to the good company and good food but we also meet new customers every month. The plan is to continue to spread the word about the Café so that more people can enjoy our unique experience.”
