Then why not join New Mills Squash Club which has just enjoyed a very successful winter league season.

Both the first and second teams have recently managed to secure promotion from their respective divisions in the North West Squash League which is quite an achievement for a small club.

James Garbett from the club said: "Maybe you are new to the area, want to take up a sport or get a bit fitter. Come along and see the club for yourself.''

The squash club uses the court within New Mills Leisure Centre. Matches are normally played on Thursday evenings.

The club also operates a `squash ladder' which encourages new players to give their details so they can be contacted to arrange a game.

James said: "The leisure centre is open from early morning to 10.30pm and there is always someone around who can arrange a game.''

The club is also starting a new coaching session for under 18s from 4pm to 5.30pm on Wednesdays. Anyone interested can come along after school and take part.

"We are trying to encourage more juniors to take up the game and get involved in our teams,'' said James.
