Mellor Country House is a UK charity, built in 1907, set in three acres of garden and woodland located in the pretty village of Mellor, situated on the border between Greater Manchester and the High Peak. The charity provides self - catering respite breaks for groups, families, carers and individuals primarily from the nearby urban areas because we know that many would not, or could not otherwise, have any break at all.

The Charity's aim is to provide a safe, secure, relaxing and uplifting environment for the financially and socially disadvantaged. We are opening our wonderful charity again on 1st March to welcome our visitors for 2018 so they can enjoy a real break in the lovely country side. Accommodation for up to 24 guests is provided in 11 bedrooms with beautifully decorated facilities and a disabled suite with a spa bath for two people. There is a well-equipped kitchen, dining room, restful lounges and children's playroom, all rooms with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The grounds include a secure play area for toddlers, a bike track for the older children, a paved patio with barbeque, a private lawn area with benches and seating for quiet reflection.

We had a good year last year with great success on our first Ladies Super at the home, everyone had a really fun evening and we hope to repeat again this year. Christmas Delights at the home also went well as did the Winter Wonderland in the Bridge where we sold fabulous non-drop Nordman Christmas trees which are also becoming very popular. Both these events are lovely, and they raise much needed funds for the home to help pay the bills and subsidise the breaks for our visitors.

Our community has been very generous to us last year donating clothes, food, toiletries, and single bedding which has made a huge difference to us so a big thank you to you all.

We are still in need of friendly volunteers to help us with gardening, small handyman jobs around the house, also to be part of a team who volunteer in a kiosk at the Etihad Stadium at all the home football games of Manchester City football team.  We need more help with our Plant Sale event as it has grown so much over the past couple of years, not only on the day but in the week leading up to the Saturday and Sunday.  This year our Plant Sale is to be held on Saturday 19th May and Sunday 20th May 10am until 4pm each day so if you can spare a couple of hours to be a friend and help (no heavy lifting) please do not hesitate to get in touch on 0161 427 1893.  Even if you cannot be hands on but have good ideas about funding or administration you can still help as this is always time consuming so give us a call or email we would be glad to hear from you. Your help whether it is financially or giving time is always gratefully received by us and without your support we would have a really hard time. You make a massive difference and together we achieve so much it is so uplifting and heart-warming, giving us such a boost to carry on.

A big THANK YOU from myself and all at the home and let us make it even better this year 2018. Margaret Powell, Chairperson and Fundraiser.
