Heidi Greenwood Stockport Germany Strines Café Cancer

Heidi Greenwood and her family

Heidi Greenwood from Stockport was diagnosed with a stage four brain tumour in May 2017. After enduring 33 courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in the UK, the tumour kept growing and Heidi was told further radiotherapy would destroy her brain.

When doctors in Britain told 46-year-old Heidi nothing more could be done to stop her aggressive cancer, the mum-of-six visited a clinic in Germany to undergo immunotherapy treatment, which is not available on the NHS.

The German clinic told Heidi she could have as much as ten years following the immunotherapy treatment, which uses the immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells.

With the family pulling together, the Greenwood’s managed to raise £29,000 to pay for the first round of treatment in Germany. Following the first treatment session at the Hallwang Clinic in Germany, Heidi has more energy and can even speak again, a remarkable achievement as she has been unable to talk coherently for around two months.

As well as her family’s admirable fundraising efforts, including her nine-year-old son Charlie raising £680 for a race at school he organised and her other five children involved in similar commendable fundraising activities, friends and the local community have been putting on events to help raise the money that will see Heidi complete the treatment she desperately needs.

On Saturday 8th September, Strines Café held a fundraising afternoon to help raise funds for Heidi’s life-saving cancer treatment in Germany. Despite the appalling weather, plenty gathered at the café to take part in the raffle, tombola and lucky dip. There was also a cake stall and face painting, but unfortunately the bouncy castle had to be called off due to the rain. Nevertheless, the event managed to raise £135 to go towards Heidi’s vital treatment.

If you would like to help Heidi Greenwood return to Germany so she can complete her vital immunotherapy treatment, you can donate on Heidi’s JustGiving page and help her reach the £250,000 target the mum-of-six desperately needs to receive the life-saving cancer treatment.
