David Whaite Marple Hall School Marple International Needs Makonge Primary School Uganda

In the summer issue of The Marple Review we covered the story of former Marple Hall School teacher David Whaite, who ran around the 98-mile Cheshire Ring in under 24 hours.

Since retiring in 2008, David and wife Mary have worked with the charity International Needs, which is helping to build new classrooms for the Makonge Primary School in the Ugandan village of Kiyindi.

In September, David returned to Kiyindi and is pleased to report construction is well underway. The foundations, walls and floors are already in place and the builders are working to ensure the roof is installed ahead of the coming wet season.

With money still coming in, he is roughly halfway towards his target of £30000. David would like to thank everyone who has generously supported him.

Photographs showing the progress can be seen on our website: www.reviewnewspapers.co.uk
